For Start-ups

Start-ups are about the belief, the passion of the Entrepreneur and surely how the business model gets fitted to the market it plays in. It is like a newly born spring gushing out of the darkness of the mountain powered by the sole energy of the entrepreneur. Like the spring rushing down the slope bubbling with vigour and all enthusiasm, a Start-up too crashes into trees, boulders, grottos and canyons and finally coalesces into a stream, a river - an ongoing enterprise!

To become an ongoing enterprise and keep growing, Start-ups need to metamorphose into an organisation that is ‘managed’ by Managers. Hence, either the Entrepreneur develops into a Manager or simply surrounds him (her) self with equally passionate managers. This evolution is not merely an experiential challenge but one that is contrarian to the entrepreneurial ‘HaTaCs’ (habits of thinking & action) and resources, primarily Time. As the Start-up gathers steam and needs to scale up, the entrepreneur’s power of enthusing others gets challenged by the width and depth of its growing organisation. The warning signals could be:

  • Entrepreneurs getting ambushed by too many ‘management’ tasks on their hands...
  • Dearth of second-line managers to ensure both Acquisition and Execution of the ongoing business model...
  • Inventory of motivators gets exhausted too soon...high attrition of ‘movers & shakers’...
  • Lack of volitionally engaged leader-managers to pre-empt organisational fragility…
  • Bleeding balance sheets and predatory investors…
  • An entrepreneur with no time (or cash) to invest in the next strategic initiative or change...

The world of enterprise or industry would have been dead if not for the passionate and at times irrational entrepreneur. The business schools, professors, managers and knowledge workers of this world would be sitting idle if not for entrepreneurs. To continue their unparalleled contribution to the society, all they need is a bit of facilitation...

If you feel your Start-up spring needs to scale up into a powerfully flowing river and overcome the warning signals or management hurdles ...
